A Color Photography Series, Fall 2007

I've always had an attraction to small objects. Even though tiny things can be rather delicate, if you are aware of them, you will notice that they have a sense of presence that should be honored. The objects in this series, all less than four inches tall, are presented in a relatively large scale to try to emphasize often over-looked detail and personality of each individual object.

This photography series allowed me to expand my horizons in the area of color photography. Paper negatives, produced through the use of large format slide film, created interesting and somewhat unpredictable color shifts in the printing process, which seem to show more of a manipulation of reality in photographs than that of a completely accurate description of the objects.

These photographs of small objects continue my somewhat autobiographical approach to photography because the objects were gathered from my relatives or my own collections. I hope that this series can serve as sort of a jumping-off point to continue my exploration of color photography using paper negatives with subject matter on an even more personal level.
